March 31, 2020 - Canada holds many wonders, from its beautiful landscape to vast wildlife. As you travel farther north, Canada offers a different type of lifestyle and beauty. Life above the Arctic Circle is one of the most captivating and seldom-seen destinations on earth.
Looking deeper into Northern Canada, specifically at Mary River in the Qikiqtani Region of Baffin Island, Nunavut, mining plays a large role in the surrounding communities. Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (Baffinland) is a Canadian open-pit mining company, that mines iron ore. Since 2015, Baffinland has been focused on becoming the lowest-cost producer of high grade iron ore in the world. It is jointly owned by ArcelorMittal and funds managed by The Energy & Minerals Group.
While Baffinland’s corporate head office is located in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, northern operations are located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Baffinland maintains a regular presence in the surrounding communities to update residents on Baffinland’s operations, new developments, and employment and training opportunities.
